general appearance~
In her days among society, Irene has been described as a great beauty among women. With her streamline features, she certainly shows a great deal of poise for the times. Irene stands at an average five feet, five inches, and with a weight of 128 pounds. She has a thin, yet curvy frame about her, which negates the appearance of being petite. Quite the contrary, she is a rather strong woman with plenty of athleticism built into her muscles. Her features are straight, and somewhat angular with high cheekbones and a small nose. Her lips are full, and bowed in a way.
When she smiles, she reveals a set of pearly white teeth, surprisingly straight for the age. Irene has long, dark hair with a slight curl to it, though she prefers to wear it straight in most of her engagements. Her dark hair is only offset by her blue-gray eyes which can convey a sense of ice cold steeliness when she wants them to, or the most loving light possible. For the most part, Irene wears the fashions of the Victorian times. She is not unaccustomed to corsets, bustle dresses, or layers. However, there are times when she is seen walking around in feminized men’s clothing such as trousers, shirts, and jacket (though the style resembles equestrian clothing, honestly).

overall personality~
Despite the chaos and confusion she stirs around her, Irene is a rather simple creature to pin down. Despite her profession and her credo of never getting too attached to anyone, Irene is really a people person. She enjoys being in the company of others, usually men, and feels her best when she is the center of attention. Like any woman, she can be soft and delicate, even promiscuous when needed. Unlike any woman, however, Irene has a rather devious and dangerous side. She has been described as having “the face of the most beautiful of women, and the mind of the most resolute of men.” This statement actually fits her to a T.
Irene was born into a time where ladies were meant to be ladies. Thieving, promiscuity, flirting, even matching a man for intelligence was simply uncouth in normal society for women. Irene, naturally, reveled in all these traits. It’s not so uncommon as to find her spilling out her opinions, or debating with a man at the dinner party. She speaks her mind quite freely, and very often, not caring what others might think of her, or say even. Irene has an ironclad self confidence that no one, not even the great Sherlock Holmes, could waiver. However, she is flawed.
Despite the exuberance of self confidence and rather large ego, Irene has her own doubts. These doubts usually center around her feelings, and usually the mushy ones. Bred into a world of spotlights, cheering crowds, and stages, she never felt anything she felt was ever real. Emotions were like a foreign language to her; something to be mastered and kept reserve until you absolutely needed them, and they could serve a purpose. For her, it meant a life of loneliness, but also a life where she could perfect herself and her skills.
Over the years Irene has developed herself according to her profession. A thief and a con artist are two positions that require precision and confidence. She had fancied herself somewhat of a perfectionist in her work, and uses this perfection to think ahead in her plans, very far ahead. She is intelligent and well traveled, both of which give her an upper hand in most scenarios she encounters. However, despite her perfectionist tendencies and her intelligence, Irene has the tendency to sometimes act impulsively. This can be seen more often towards the end of an adventure or heist; usually when whatever she wants is just within her grasp. Afterwards, its always a scramble to regain composure. Though, after years of conning and stealing, she has learned to prepare for this.
Irene believes that everyone has one true weakness. It is something she has even discussed with Sherlock Holmes, the man she outsmarts and reveals very little to on a regular basis. For so long, Irene has kept herself closed up enough that no one has ever known who, if anyone, she really ever has cared for. In recent years, it has been made known her one true weakness is Holmes himself. However, it’s a fact she doesn’t exactly like to admit to. If asked, she’ll artfully manipulate the conversation into whatever she may want.

history~
As a child, Irene’s time was either spent with her tutors or her vocal coach. Her parents, who were world renowned opera singers had only one child. A child who was going to follow in their footsteps if they had any say in the matter. Irene did just that. Fully trained by the age of fourteen, the girl soon began touring with her parents. It was a lonely life, and one that really spurred her on to where she was currently.
Andrej and Maureen, obsessed with their own careers, rarely had time to spend with their daughter. This lifelong stream of a broken heart, and loneliness only taught the young Irene one thing: it was better to keep people at a distance so as not to get hurt. By the time she was old enough, Irene broke free of her parents, and began touring on her own. It was through these series of singing engagements that she met many wily characters, and really came out of her shell.
Throughout her twenties, Irene made a habit of cozying up to the richer opera patrons. Here and there she would swindle money from them, or extravagant jewels. Soon it became pure habit. She became known as an amazing operatic singer onstage, and quite the adventuress off stage. Despite her tour dates, and lengthy performances, Irene took part in various activities usually offered to only men. She raced horses, learned how to fence, sailed boats, even climbed a few mountain tops. Nothing was too dangerous or scary for the girl, and she rather enjoyed the attention her hijinks brought her. She was beginning to stand out.
Around her 30th year of life, two important things happened to Irene. The first was she retired from the opera profession with enough money to live rather pleasantly. The second was she had her first run in with Sherlock Holmes.
Having been wooed by Wilhelm Gottsreich Sigismond von Ormstein, Grand Duke of Cassel-Felstein and hereditary King of Bohemia, Irene engaged in a torrid affair several, several years before the King hired Holmes. Because their affair was so secret, Irene kept a photograph of the two of them together, the purpose the photo held was something she has never told to anyone. Though, anybody’s best guess would be a blackmail of some sort. When the King enlisted the help of Holmes, Irene began to turn up the heat. She fancied herself just as smart and as skilled as the detective, and proved so when she outwitted the man.
Irene has been married several times in her history. Mostly to older, wealthy men, and usually because of money. She is a skilled thief, having been hired by some of the most evil masterminds known to Europe. She has had her hand in a number of thieveries, though she does not boast about such facts. Those who hire people like her usually already know the score she keeps within her own mind.
Around the time of Lord Blackwood’s reign of terror, Irene had been in a jam in Italy. A mysterious man had approached her while she lay in hiding from the Italian police. He claimed to be Professor Moriarty, a name that meant little to Adler, as she had never heard of him before. It did not take long for her to realize the intelligence and power this man held. Moriarty employed her help for a hefty sum and the promise of safe passage back to England. She was to approach Sherlock Holmes and enlist his help as a detective to find a certain ginger haired midget. All tasks which seemed rather easy for Irene to fulfill.
By this point in her life, she had but few run ins with Holmes, mostly chance meetings here and there. When she went to see him at his boarding house on Moriarty’s orders, she found Holmes asleep with a pile of papers as usual. She had also noticed the picture he kept of her on one of his tables. Irene knew how to act around Holmes, just enough mystery to persuade him, or intrigue him at least, and then he was in the game. She had no idea, however, that his current case overlapped with hers.
Eventually, Holmes convinces her she is truly in over her head with this Moriarty fellow. A realization which comes after she is nearly chopped into two, and blown to pieces along with Watson and Sherlock. However, Moriarty is one step ahead of her and gives her an ultimatum. Either she finishes the job, or Sherlock Holmes will pay the ultimate price. The man had found Irene Adler’s ultimate weak spot, and she went back to finish the job. This proved to be harder than she thought with the interference of Lord Blackwood’s lackeys, and ultimately Lord Blackwood himself.
Using a classic trick, Irene throws herself from the top of the unfinished iron bridge only to land on a platform below while Holmes and Blackwood duke out their manly bravado. When all is said and done, she is not at all surprised to find Sherlock at her side. What does surprise her is his quickness to cuff her hands and leave her to wait for the police. Though, not without slipping the key down her blouse first. A tell tale sign of the unspoken feelings neither seems to want to admit to.
After being taken into custody after Sherlock’s departure, Irene bides her time. As a female captive, the detectives of Scotland Yard feel only one man is needed to accompany her to prison to await trial. This was their flawed mistake. Having learned sufficient fighting skills, Irene easily knocked the poor fellow cold and quickly slipped out of her cuffs. Taking the officer’s uniform as her own, she jumps from the back of the carriage and made her way through London. Thus freeing the ever elusive Irene Adler.
Of course, after escaping Scotland Yard for the third time in her life, Irene decided it would be best to leave England for a while. She returned to New Jersey for a while, searching for her mother whom she hadn’t seen or heard from in years. Finding little luck, Irene returned to the United Kingdom, staying in a lovely country home in the English countryside. That is, until she finds herself bored and seeking a new adventure.

Irene hadn't been to the heart of London since the fateful day atop the Tower Bridge. A bridge that was darn well near completed by now. She hadn't dared set foot anywhere near this place, mainly for fear of being recognized by the police, or someone else for that matter. Irene Adler was a woman of many skills, and not one of them would help her fend in a women's prison. Not that she wouldn't mind the challenge. Yet, why take the chance? With so much to do and see with the freedom of the outside world, why take a chance and ruin it? This was where men's clothing and disguise came in handy.
With a simple pair of trousers, a dress shirt with a vest to cover it, and a pageboy cap, she easily passed for a young man in the streets. To most, dressing as a man for a disguise is quite odd for a woman. For Irene, it was all too commonplace. The only person who had ever known her to do so would be Holmes, and possibly Watson to that effect. Still, it was an easier way to get around London, and the freedom was amazing! Irene made her way past the large building of Parliament and began to make her way through a crowd of street performers. God, she had missed the hustle and bustle of London. The gritty side, the dangerous side. This was what she had been needing for a long time now. The thrill of being in the midst of society.
