A seemingly miss-placed boy walked the streets of London as the white noise of the rain filled the area. The monotony days were starting to pile up, everyday the same thing over and over. He was getting tired of it. He could not play the violin in the rain, for he had no case to get it from one place to another. He had already asked around the shops to see if any of them needed help but business was slow. He looked at the sleeve of his jacket and watched the water drip off of it, he was soaked. He walked for another few blocks before stopping under an awning and attempting to wring out his clothes. He still had a few hours until he had to pick up his sisters so he searched his pockets to bring out a few coins, they had food, he had already paid the rent so this was extra. Thinking about it for a moment he stuck the coins back into his pocket and started back off into the rain.
He figured since he hadn't been able to get his sisters anything new, he's find them some new hair pins or brushes. That would make them happy right? Or he could get Rukia the brushes and hope he has enough to get Aisa a new doll. He would get them clothes but only a few coins couldn't get them anything good. Coming on a small store, he entered and asked the woman in there what she thought his sisters would want. She thought about it before telling him to wait and going into another room.

Emogene hadn't been in the store more than a minute when the woman behind the counter gave her a pointed look. A disappointed frown crossed the young girl's face momentarily. She wasn't dressed as a vagrant, nor did she look like an orphaned child with their dirty little uniforms. Emogene had actually put a lot of effort into looking as if she could afford the finest item in the store, should she choose to purchase anything. Perhaps the woman behind the counter just knew better? Em had noticed the hardening degree of shopkeepers who could pick a thief out of any crowd. She knew she'd have to step up her game one day, she had just hoped it wouldn't have to be so soon.
A welcomed surprise came as Em walked from shelf to shelf, trailing her fingertips along the items. The boy who had entered the shop had taken the attention away from Emogene, and for that she was grateful. Almost the exact second the shop lady left the room, Em reached out and pocketed a few silver looking hairpins, all the while keeping her eyes on the boy and the door the woman had just exited from. Once she was certain that she was in the clear, Emogene approached the lad. A brother, shopping for his sisters? She was quite intrigued.
"You know she's going to tell you the most expensive item on the list, right? She paused, then leaned in closer as if telling him a secret, though her whisper was quite audible, "It's th oldest shop trick in the book. I'd go on instinct with your shoppin', but I suppose that is just me." The words were probably the most unselfish bits she'd spoken all year. Em usually just kept to herself, but she couldn't help herself this time around.

He hadn't noticed the girl already in the store when he arrived and stood partly patiently at the counter. As the young woman approached, he glanced her way - having caught her movement in the corner of he eye. She appeared well-off but had a sort of mischievous aura around her. Not in a completely bad way though. When she spoke to him, he became cautious. Not many people talked to him unless he was playing on the side of the street for coins or customers for shops. 'Instinct' for shopping? Hell he didn't know what he was doing he normally didn't shop for things like that, that's why he asked! He only went to the market to get food, his sister normally got the clothes and such.
He was silent just for a moment after she stopped talking before he decided to be polite and speak back. "Thank you for your concern, but if you had any suggestions instead of the shop keeper you can say it." He tried his best to sound polite, but not being very social made that hard. He hopped he didn't sound rude.

Emogene smiled, though her annoyance at his honest and to the point reply was evident. She couldn't, nor would she ever, keep her truth hidden. There was not enough time in one's life to hide things. Though, therein lay the double standard in Em's life. While she truly believed in not suppressing one's thoughts, Emogene's livelihood was based on keeping lies and secrets. Not even her own brother knew how she kept herself afloat in today's society. Nor would Em ever let him. The better kept her secret was, the better off everyone in her life was.
Looking around the shop, Emogene's eyes settled on a small doll. It was porcelain, with soft pink lips, rosey cheeks, and blue eyes. The dress was an emerald green with black trimming in a simple lace pattern. Slowly, she pointed towards the smaller looking doll, "That one, over there" She turned to look back at the boy, satisfied with her opinion, "I used to have one just like it when I was a little girl. Its small enough to travel with and soft enough to sleep with. Besides, it is made with great craftsmanship and does not cost as much as the other models. That is my opinion."

The doll was... odd to say the least and the teen just shrugged. He knew Rukia wouldn't want it and Aisa wouldn't know what to do with such an odd looking doll. That instant he remembered that Rukia was trying to raise money for some origami paper, that would make her happy but he still didn't know what to get Aisa. The six year old didn't like the color green -although her eyes were a bright emerald green. He moved to one of the shelves and searched for the paper as he spoke "any other suggestions?"
As he waited for her answer he found the paper he was looking for. Rukia would be happy when they got home. Haku checked the price card- he would have little over four pounds after he got the paper- he picked up the package off the shelf before looking back at the girl. He still thought she was a bit suspicious, it was one of those feelings you got when you were around someone who wasn't completely good but had good intentions.
