Always with pants and suspenders, usually with a white shirt, and a long dark overcoat. Of course, when she needs to, she can wear a dress. Pants are just easier when working a job. overall personality~
Emogene is an odd girl, at least she seems to be. It’s hard to tell where her conning begins and her true personality begins. Every day she seems to be playing someone new, and every day new habits are required. To know the core of Emogene would be to know how she became the young woman she is now. At one point in her life, Emogene was a sweet young girl, filled with nothing but purity and innocence. All this would change around the age of six. Suddenly, that air of innocence disappeared and Emogene became the stone cold girl she is today. Part of this comes from never having a stable home life. Em doesn’t talk about her past, and rarely gives out information unless its on a need to know basis.
For the most part, Em enjoys herself. She loves what she does for a living, and takes great pride in her work and skills. Almost to the point of obsession. On the same note, Emogene can never back down from a challenge or dare. Its just not in her repertoire to be presumed weak or spineless. To that end, she has had to develop a refined speaking skill in which to talk herself out of tight spots. Like most women, she enjoys music, and is at her purest self whenever she is dancing. Emogene is loyal to one man, though their tensions are strained. The man who taught her to be who she is today, and though she never truly knew his name, she knows when he comes around he always throws a job her way.
In many ways, Em is a caring girl. Despite her criminal past, and her hardened demeanor, she does have a heart. The one person she has ever truly loved, however, is her younger brother. Most of what she does with her own life is a means to support him. When she isn’t working or looking for the next mark, Em loves to just enjoy the street life of London. There’s something about the urban culture that has always made her feel right at home. Though it is not often you find any kind of smile but a coy one upon her lips, when she is truly being herself, one can find the complacent smile of happiness on her.

history~
On the night of October 31st, Emogene Jeanne Santiago was born to Jeanne Santiago. A single mother, abandoned by an unloving husband, Jeanne did her best to take care of the small infant. Living in Bordeaux, France, the mother/daughter duo had little chance. The area had been stricken with a respiratory illness, leaving many children dead, and adults weakened. Jeanne packed up the two and headed for England. Jeanne would soon find her hardships weren’t any easier in London than they had been in Bordeaux, but at least there had been no sickness. Renting a room in a boarding house near the heart of London, Jeanne supported her daughter and herself by working for a suit and dress shop. She spent her days sewing and hemming dresses while Em would play with her dolls in the corner of the shop.
One day, when Emogene was about two years old, a man came in looking for a suit to be tailored. Jeanne would tell her daughter in later years it was love at first sight, but Emogene would hardly believe the fairytale. Her mother and the customer, Francois Moreau, were married in the fall right before Emogene’s third birthday. In some ways, Francois was a godsend. Em never knew her father, nor did her mother ever talk about the man. Presumed dead for so many years, having had a job on a large boat, Jeanne saw no reason in ever trying to find out what happened to him. And Francois took in Emogene like she were his own daughter. He bought her pretty dresses, loads of toys, and treated her like his little princess. Neither mother nor daughter could have been happier.
Because of Francois’ wealth, when Emogene came of age, her stepfather hired the best tutors for her education. It wasn’t often girls were sent to school, and if they were it was never for very long. Emogene enjoyed her books, and excelled under the tutelage of her teachers. By the age of nine, her parents told her they were expecting a second child, and a feeling of completeness came over the family. Emogene took a shine to the idea of a baby brother, who was promptly name Jean Pierre; Jean for his mother, and Pierre for his paternal grandfather. Sadly, their mother would not survive childbirth, and both Emogene and Jean Pierre would become motherless on what should have been a joyous day.
From the day of her brother’s birth, Francois was a changed man. No longer happy and smiling, the man left the raising of the children to the nannies and immersed himself in his work. About a year later, Em and Jean Pierre became full on orphans. After the death of Francois, Em’s nanny told her they had received word she was going to be sent away to school by an anonymous donor. Jean Pierre, however, would be going to the care of their father’s brother. What Emogene didn’t know was the type of schooling she was going to receive. She found herself being taught by tutors in a private residence once again. She was also being taught very random skills, most of which she knew had no place in society.
From the day she arrived at her new residence, Emogene realized her potential for a line of work not so kosher. She was taught the basics, the scams, and anything she would ever need to survive. Very little was asked of her in return. A job here or there, and a loyalty she would forever keep for a man she didn’t truly know. When she was fourteen, with her schooling complete, Emogene left her home/school. She was determined to find her younger brother and family, but also to put her new skills to the test. It wasn’t until she had returned to London did she learn of the death of her uncle. Jean Pierre had been placed in an orphanage, where he would remain. Emogene now had a new mission. She would try to save up enough to free her brother of the abusive place in which he lived.
Along her journey, she has met several characters. This is where she has learned working with partners was a risky business. While on the job, stealing a painting for a client, she was double crossed by her partner and the man actually stabbed her. After a long recovery, Emogene learned her lesson: partners were dangerous. Working alone was all the better. After several years of working her cons and stealing the best, Emogene gained quite a reputation for herself.

rp sample~
There was a foul stench of horse dung scattered around the streets. Emogene wasn’t too surprised, seeing as horses were the main mode of transportation. She did, however, hate the stench. One became used to it after a while, though Em wouldn’t count this as a plus in any means. Being used to a foul stench was one step closer to having a foul stench yourself. Pulling her coat closer around her trousers and pressed shirt, Em eyed the people out for the evening. Mostly wealthy men showing their wives or fiances a night out on the town. For Emogene, this meant more coin purses for the taking. Bumping harmlessly into a portly fellow in front of her, Em gave him a smile and a flustering of apologies all the while her hand slipped into his pocket effortlessly. After an assurance everything was okay, Em bowed out and went on her way. By the time the man realized she had picked his pocket, she’d be long gone. As she turned the corner, she found the mark she’d been waiting for. Lord Cahill, from western coast of the country. She had been doing her homework on him for months. Tonight was the last night of research before she made contact. All Emogene had to do was charter his movements on a night out on the town before she slipped into character and into place. Then the family heirlooms would be hers for the taking.
