height~ 5'4"

physical flaws~ scarred knees and elbows, a light scar above her left eyebrow, all the typical marks of a childhood in Liverpool and London.
general appearance~
Johanna overall appearance might be described as "whispy". She has fair skin, light blue eyes, and flyaway brown hair. Her face is heart-shaped and, in the spring and summer, slightly pinkish in complexion, though during the colder months it's often paler because she takes cold somewhat easily. She is petite in height and build, being just over five feet, and is not what one would call "curvy". She is thin and slight in build with a small nose and fine mouth. PHysically, her appearance is mostly unremarkable, save for her eyes, which are large and striking. She had been called pretty or "cute" on occasion, but never a great beauty.
She generally dresses in a fairly ordinary fashion, not following the latests trends and fashions with any great interest. She does like to look nice, however, and like most women enjoys a good trip to the shops when she has the time. Her wardrobe is not extensive, as her family is hardly well-off, but the few dresses she owns are elegant but understated to suit her nature. If she has a "trademark" in her dress it's most certainly the bow she always has tied in her hair. She has an arbitrary affinity for ribbons and has a rather large collention of them to tie into her wavy brown locks. Her jewelry is fairly limited, again, the Coltons are not particularly wealthy. Most of what she wears regularly once belonged to her mother; a gold cross necklace is always around her neck and small pearl earrings are put in place when she feels the need to look dressed up. Around the shop, however, she generally keeps her attire and appearance as practical and business-like as is possible for a young lady of London.

secrets~
-Johanna has told no one that she longs to be a writer, or even that she has taken up that noble craft as a hobby. It is not unheard of for women to publish literature, but it is extremely difficult and she does not yet have the confidence to put her work out in the world.
-In her heart of hearts, Johanna is and always has been suspicious regarding the circumstances of her mother's death, but she has never divulged her fears to anyone, even her dear borther.
overall personality~
Johanna is, like most books, more complex than what her quiet ordinary exterior alludes to. Her soft-spoken nature hides an active, and observant mind that relishes in taking in the world around her, usually for the purposes of describing and ruminating over it in her journal at a later time. She is a considerate person, on the whole, and an optimist, generally, always desiring to see people and things from an understanding angle of view. To the casual observer, Johanna is a kind, considerate, helpful girl who knows her duties and her place in life and keeps to them well and without complaint. There is, however, more to her than that.
She is highly intelligent and, when she is not compelled by an unfamiliar or awkward situation into a state of shyness, can be quite willing to chatter on about subjects she knows and loves. These topics range greatly, as she loves to learn and tends to pursue any new subject vigorously. She can also be quite witty with a sharp sense of humor and a love of laughing. When she is in company with people she is comfortable with, she can be quite animated, forward, and open to making her opinions known. That aforementioned shyness, however, does tend to hinder her social life more often than not. She becomes nervous in large crowds, but also dislikes the awkward necessity of making small talk with a single companion. While people fascinate her, she usually prefers the solitude of words to any party or ball. This has not only hindered her friendships, but also her love life.
At twenty-one she should be at the prime age of courting and matchmaking, but instead she finds herself without a single gentleman caller. This is unfortunate as she is actually quite the romantic at heart. Her reading has filled her with a love of intrigue and dark, mysterious romance, but she has found little of this in her mostly solitary life among tomes and so must content herself with literary accounts of such escapades. She has a bit of an adventurous streak within her as well, despite the fact that she often lacks the self-assuredness that would allow her to go forth and be a lady of the world. Her daydreams and wistful writings set her on international journeys and in the midst of perilous mysteries, but she fears she will never be able to live such fantasies out, as her reserved and timid nature keeps her within the same, safe, haibitual life she has always known.

((from a Harry Potter site I was admin of))
Hestia hated Astronomy. While most students disliked potions in the dank dungeons, or Herbology in the humid greenhouses, Hestia Jones despised the one class that let you sit way up high in a tower and stare at the stars. She wasn't even entirely sure why. There was just something about it that frustrated her to no end, the whole endeavor seemed pointless. What made her even more perturbed was the fact that she was a sixth year and shouldn't have to be taking this class at all.
She'd suffered through the Astronomy O.W.L. at the end of 5th year and somehow come out of it with an "A" for Acceptable. She'd been so overjoyed that she'd danced around her house for a full ten minutes in exuberant happiness before her brother Julian, just home from America where he'd been working in wizarding foreign relations, forcibly shut her up by hurling a chocolate frog at her head. She'd walked to the Head of House's office very confidently on that first day, more confidently than she'd ever walked into the prsence of any teacher before. She would never have to take Astronomy again! This year she would take classes she was interested in, subjects she was good at! Or not. After a full half-hour of deliberation, Hestia was told point-blank that, seeing as she wasn't entirely sure of what she wanted to do with her life after Hogwarts, dropping a "core class" like Astronomy would be a very bad idea indeed.
So she was taking Astronomy. Against her will. Tia was convinced this was really some form of punishment, payback for all the times she'd narrowly avoided detention or lost substantial amounts of house points. There was no way she would ever use Astronomy in her life, no matter what she decided to do. She stared defiantly at the textbook page in front of her, daring it to force information inside her head. She'd been at this supposed "studying" for more than an hour. Her eyes were burning with the effort of staring at the tiny dots that were supposed to represent celestial bodies, the words on the page were starting to swim in that unmistakable way. Vaguely, she wondered where her noisy, raucus friends were. They really should have come barging in by now, inviting her to watch a quidditch game or go for a walk. Surely, they weren't studying too?
"As seen from Earth, Mars varies greatly in its apparent brightness, due to both the changing distance between the two planets, and the changing amount of sunlit surface Mars presents to us. Roughly every 26 months, the Earth is closest to the red planet, and Mars looks brightest. At these times, Mars is said to be in opposition with.......meaning.....occasional erratic behaviors of....acounts of Hippogriffs......"
Somewhere in the back of her mind, Hestia knew that at least some of what she was reading should be making sense, but the majority of her thoughts were now occupied with what she could see out the window she sat next to. It was a very sunny day. Outside, it was probably pleasantly warm but not stifling. It was the kind of day that was perfect for sitting next to the lake, talking, listening to music, and annoying the occasional Slytherin. Where in Merlin's name were her friends anyway?
anything else~ I currently share a computer with my family and am not always be able to be online everyday. I will try my hardest, though, and will most certainly be online 3-4 times a week.
